Lea Marquez Peterson Biography
Lea Marquez Peterson is an American politician and entrepreneur. She is the chairwoman of the Arizona Corporation Commission. She is the most Influential Women of 2021 in Arizona. Most Influential Women publications’ list was announced by AZ Big Media.
Marquez Peterson is in Republican Party and she started his office in the Arizona Corporation Commission on May 30, 2019. Her current term will end on January 6, 2025. She was elected as chairwoman of the Arizona Corporation Commission in November 2020. She took the seat on January 4, 2021 and was elected by her fellow commissioners to lead the Commission as Chair.
With her appointment in May 2019, Lea became the first Latina to serve in a statewide office in the state of Arizona. She is the only commissioner in Arizona who is not from Maricopa County.
Lea Marquez Peterson has been an entrepreneur in Arizona for many years. She supports Arizona’s small business community and economic development. She served as the CEO of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber from 2009 to 2018 and the Executive Director of Greater Tucson Leadership (GTL) from 2005 to 2009.
Marquez Peterson is the former Chair of the Pima Association of Governments’ Economic Vitality Committee. Currently she is the President of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) in Tucson and member of the national Small Business Development Council (SBDCs) advisory board for the U.S Small Business Association.
From 2005 to 2009 Lea operated a Business Brokerage Firm and from 1998 to 2005 a chain of six gasoline convenience stores in the Tucson region.
Lea has been assigned to serve on the Arizona Judicial Council. She is the Board of Directors of Carondelet’s St Mary’s and St Joseph’s Hospitals in Tucson. Beside this she also serves on the Boards of the University of Arizona Foundation and the Pima County Workforce Investment Board.

Lea received her undergraduate degrees in Marketing and Entrepreneurship from the University of Arizona in 1992 and Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University in 1996. She also attended, Latino Entrepreneurship Leaders Program/Business/Commerce, Stanford University, 2016.

Over the last two decades Lea Marquez Peterson owned and operated several small businesses in the Tucson area. While serving as President/CEO of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Lea helped advocate for over 1,800 small businesses across Southern Arizona. Her success was acknowledged nationally by being named Hispanic Chamber of the year. Now in 2021 she is recognized as the Most Influential Women of 2021 in Arizona, US.
